The two celebrated their wedding in 2003. Their wedding ceremony was a lavish affair that took place at the Holy Rosary Cathedral in Regina. Marrying Jill and settling down in Regina by 2003, Andrew Scheer picked up a job as an insurance broker at his friend’s company for a brief period of time.
Speaking to The Globe and Mail about her husband’s interest in politics, she says she knew her husband was interested in running in politics from the day she met him. Yet, while she knew that he wanted to be involved in the political scene, she never guessed that he would one day be in a campaign to run the country. Jill further revealed in an interview that she thought politics would only be a side thing for Scheer and he would eventually go back to selling insurance.
While Jill may not have expected to be by the side of her husband as he ran for Prime Minister of Canada, she is extremely supportive, stating to Globe and Mail that she fully believes in her husband’s political journey.

Scheer has dual Canadian and American citizenship which he obtained through his American-born father, James D. Scheer.” In August 2019 he began the process of renouncing his US citizenship. Scheer confirmed that he has filed US tax returns and the party verified that he is registered for the draft under the U.S. Selective Service System, which is a list of individuals who can be conscripted into the armed forces in the event of a national emergency. Scheer denied that he had been hiding this information, but rather stated that he had never been asked about his dual citizenship, nor about having an American-born parent, before the information was revealed by the Globe and Mail during the 2019 federal election campaign.
