Anne Thumbi was nominated to the Nairobi county assembly by Jubilee after the 2017 General Election. At the county assembly, She sits in four committees — the Public Health Services; Energy Information, Communications and Technology; Culture and Community Services and the Delegated County Legislation committees.
Her most recent and notable contribution to the Nairobi County Assembly was a Motion seeking to have private hospitals barred from charging visitors parking fees. In the Motion, she condemns an influx in the number of private hospitals with parking lots for which patients and other visitors who throng the healthcare facilities are charged.
“It is unfair for a patient or the family of the patient to incur extra parking charges yet they have medical bills to cater for. Parking should be free in all hospitals,” she argued.

Anne Thumbi Blocks Ken Okoth’s Burial Rites Pending a Case
On Agust 1st, 2019 Anne Thumbi filed a case against Okoth’s mother Angeline Okoth, his wife Monica Okoth and Lee Funeral Home where his body was preserved. She filed the case after the family declined to recognise her and their five-year-old son.
The court temporarily stopped the internment of Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s body pending the case. The family was planning to conduct final rites for Okoth’s body in Homa Bay on Saturday, August 3rd followed by a cremation which is also opposed by a section of his family members.
During Okoth’s memorial service in Moi Girls High School in Kibra, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko told mourners that he was a witness to Ann’s relationship with the deceased, and pleaded with the family to recognise her.
“I know they were an item because it is Ken who asked me to nominate Ann to the county assembly,” Sonko said.

Ken Okoth (Kibra MP) Death & Cause
Ken Okoth died on 26th July 2019, his death was confirmed by his brother Iman Okoth who said that Ken had succumbed to cancer at the Nairobi Hospital at around 4 PM. He had been taken to Nairobi Hospital on June 25, after he showed signs of organ failure. He was put on ICU but on July 26, he asked his family to switch off the life support machine. His body was transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
