Lisa Rothwell is a 34-year-old assistant principal in North Carolina who has been arrested on Friday, October 4th and charged with having a half-dozen sexual encounters with a student earlier this year. She is accused of having sex with a student six times over a four-month span, police said.

Rothwell is a married woman with his husband, Joe Rothwell, also a teacher in math and English at WC Friday Middle School. According to his biography posted online, the couple have been married since 2009. It is not clear whether the two are still together but Lisa bears his husband’s last name.

Rothwell is a native of Michigan who earned a Master’s degree from Appalachian State University. She joined the staff at Stuart Cramer High School in 2014 as an exceptional children teacher, and a year later was elevated to the position of assistant principal.
Lisa Rothwell taught gifted children at North Gaston High School and Stanley Middle School prior to landing her current position in 2014, the Gaston Gazette reported.
Rothwell has worked at Gaston County Schools for a decade, most recently as assistant principal at Stuart Cramer High School in Belmont, earning more than $66,000 a year.

Rothwell was ordered held on a $1 million bond during a court appearance late Friday, October 4th. She’s facing six counts of felony sexual activity with a student by a school employee, jail records show. Rothwell, who was emotional during her initial court appearance Friday, is scheduled to return to court Monday to seek a reduction in her bond, according to the Gaston Gazette. She has been suspended with pay following her arrest, according to WSOC.
