Ben Stelter Cancer
In 2020, Ben was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, two months before his fifth birthday. Although he was only six years old, Ben faced some of the toughest challenges. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, just two months before his fifth birthday. To try and fight cancer, he underwent multiple surgeries to remove the tumour, thirty-five radiation sessions, and four rounds of chemotherapy.
Despite all of this, Ben remained positive and smiled throughout his treatment. In late March 2022, he even had the chance to live out one of his dreams – skating on the ice at an NHL game. After the game, he and Zach Hyman gave an interview nobody will ever forget.
As the playoffs went on, Ben and his family became increasingly involved with the Oilers. They attended many of the team’s home games, cheering them on to victory. The Oilers went on a 10-game winning streak home at one point with Ben in the stands.
Ben quickly became a rallying point for the team and was welcomed by the players as one of their own. He even got to tour the Oilers’ dressing room at one point. As the season progressed and turned into the playoffs, Ben became more and more invested in the team’s success.
