Carolyn Coburn was the wife to the late Tom Coburn, who was a physician and politician having served as a senator for Oklahoma. Carolyn is a former Miss Oklahoma who reigned in 1967.

Carolyn together with her husband had three daughters together; Callie, Katie and Sarah Coburn. Sarah is an American operatic soprano who received her first recognition in the opera world in 2001 as a National Grand Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
Tom Coburn Bio
Tom was an American politician and physician. He was an ultraconservative Oklahoma Republican who in 16 years in Congress crusaded for limited government, using a rule-book technicality to block so many bills that frustrated legislators called him “Dr. No.”
Tom was also an obstetrician who treated some 15,000 patients and delivered 4,000 babies in a maternal and family practice in Muskogee, Okla., before embarking on his political career. He held a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma. He interned at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, had a residency at the University of Arkansas Health Education Center in Fort Smith and returned to Muskogee to open his family and obstetrics practice.
He participated in medical missions to Haiti in 1985 and Iraq in 1992 while he was a deacon of the Southern Baptist Church.

Coburn was the son of Orin Wesley and Anita (Allen) Coburn. His father was an optician who founded Coburn Optical Industries, which made ophthalmic equipment and eyeglass lenses.

Tom Coburn Barack Obama
Coburn was a friend of former President Barack Obama despite their ideological differences. They worked together on political ethics reform legislation, to set up an online federal spending database and to crack down on no-bid contracting at the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
During an interview with Bloomberg TV in April 2011 he said this about Obama; “I love the man. I think he’s a neat man. I don’t want him to be president, but I still love him. He is our President. He’s my President. And I disagree with him adamantly on 95% of the issues, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have a great relationship. And that’s a model people ought to follow.”
Tom Coburn Prostate Cancer
Tom had prostate cancer. In 2013 he revealed that he was being treated for a recurrence of prostate cancer. According to his former communications director, John Hart he died from cancer.
Tom Coburn Death
Tom died on March 28, 2020 from cancer. His family released a statement that read; “Tom A Coburn, MD, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home this morning surrounded by his family. Because of his strong faith, he rested in the hope found in John chapter 11 verse 25 where Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, will live, even though they die.’ Today he lives in heaven.”
