Thérèse Dion (Thérèse Tanguay-Dion) popularly known as Maman Dion was the mother of singer Celine Dion. She was a former Canadian television personality who presented a cooking show on TVA called “Maman Dion.”

Thérèse married her late husband Adhémar-Charles Dion in 1945. He died in 2003.

Thérèse Dion Celine Dion
Thérèse Dion was not only the mother to singer Celine Dion but she also co-wrote Céline’s first song, It Was Only a Dream, which was sent to music manager René Angélil in 1980 in the hopes of landing her then-12-year-old daughter a record deal. Celine went on to become René Angélil protegée, while they also fell in love and wed in 1994.
Thérèse Dion Media Personality
Thérèse was also a media personality in Quebec, with her own cooking show on the French-language network TVA called “Maman Dion.” She appeared on the show for three seasons until 2002, when she stopped to care for her husband.
Maman Dion Foundation
In 2006 she founded Maman Dion Foundation which provides school supplies and clothes to children from disadvantaged backgrounds at the start of each school year. She received the Quebec National Assembly medal for her work on the foundation.
Thérèse Dion Death
Maman Dion died on January 17, 2020 at the age of 92. Her daughter Claudette said that she had been ill over the past few months. She faced serious health issues, including vision and hearing impairment and memory loss. Celine Dion who is on her Courage World Tour paid tribute to her on her Instagram and Twitter and said that her Friday night show in Miami will be dedicated to her mother.
