Chris Kempczinski (Christopher John Kempczinski) is an American business executive who has succeeded Steve Easterbrook as the new president and CEO of McDonald’s Corporation. He is the former president of McDonald’s USA.

Chris began his career with Procter & Gamble in brand management, and worked for four years in its soap sector division, before leaving to attend Harvard Business School. After HBS he became a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, focusing on consumer products and pharmaceuticals.

He joined PepsiCo in its corporate strategy & development group in 2000 and in 2006 he became the VP, Marketing, Non Carbonated Beverages, Pepsi-Cola North America Beverages. He later joined Kraft Foods as executive vice president of growth initiatives, and president of Kraft International until he left in September 2015 to join McDonald’s.

On November 3, 2019 Chris Kempczinski was named by the board as the new president and CEO of McDonald’s following Easterbrook’s departure. Easterbrook was voted out after he had an affair with an employee which is against the company’s policy.

Chris joined McDonald’s in late 2015 as a member of McDonald’s global strategy team. In 2016 he was promoted to president of McDonald’s USA.

According to a statement by Enrique Hernandez, chairman of McDonald’s board, Chris was instrumental in the development of McDonald’s strategic plan and oversaw the most comprehensive transformation of the US business in McDonald’s history.

After his appointment as the new president and CEO Chris thanked Steve for his contributions, ‘Steve brought me into McDonald’s and he was a patient and helpful mentor.’

During an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Sunday he said he will maintain Easterbrook’s focus on technology when he takes over as CEO and that he believes the company’s investments will pay off.

‘There isn’t going to be some radical, strategic shift. The plan is working.’
