Derek Roan who is one of the owners of Barnbarroch Farm is being reported to have died in hospital after an accident on the farm. The Barnbarroch Farm near Dalbeattie is a family-run dairy farm which has survived during a time when 50% of UK Dairy farms have gone under.
Derek run the Barnbarroch Farm, Dalneayyie and was the chairman of the NFUS Dumfries and Galloway regional board.

Derek Roan is survived by his wife Kathleen and their children Stuart, Steven and Leeanne. He was also a father-in-law to Aylett, Tracey and Tony and a proud Papa to Fergus, Fraser, Andrew, Lucy, Daisy and Skye.
Derek Roan Death & Cause
Derek passed away on Monday, June 20 after an accident on the Barnbarroch Farm near Dalbeattie on Sunday. He was 71 years old at the time of his death. Scotland Police said that Emergency services were called after the accident and they rushed the 71-year-old man to the hospital.
The Health and Safety Executive said it was aware of the incident and would be making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding it as reported by BBC.
Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious and a report had been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
Roan Dairy wrote, “We are totally devastated and still in shock to what has happened and it will take some time for us to come to terms of not having him around.”
All Derek’s hard work was for his two passions in life – his family and his farms. Derek was well known within the farming community and many other circles.
He will be sadly missed by all. They concluded their statement by writing, “We would like to thank everyone for sending their condolences during this difficult time for us. The Roan family.”
