Who is Didi Bertrand? Paul Farmer’s Wife; Learn More on her Work, Age & Children

Didi Bertrand is best known for being the wife of Paul Farmer, an American medical anthropologist, and physician. He is being reported to have passed away on Monday, Feb 21, 2022, in Kigali Rwanda.

Who is Didi Bertrand?

Didi Bertrand Farmer is a Haitian medical anthropologist and community health specialist known for leading several initiatives at Partners in Health. Didi’s the daughter of a local schoolmaster in Hait. Her work mostly focused on empowering girls and young women in Haiti and Rwanda. Paul Famer, his wife, and their colleagues run Partners in Health, a charity that he founded nearly 20 years ago. They received a donation of $3m (£1.6m) from the Clinton Foundation and other donors which enable them to restore an abandoned hospital in the southeast of the country near the Tanzanian border at Rwinkwavu.

A 2006 article on the Independent stated that Paul and Didi had been for a decade meaning that at the time of Paul’s death, they were married for 26 years. The article listed them as having a child at the time who was schooling in Paris. They went on to have two more children.

Paul Farmer Death & Cause

Farmer is being reported to have passed away in his sleep in Kigali, Rwanda, on February 21, 2022, at the age of 62.
Nicholas Kristof in s tribute described Farmer as a hero of the global health community and a model human being. He went on to credit him for helping to lead the charge against AIDS, TB, and more, ” He also helped found Partners In Health and inspired so many young people to enter the field of global health”
Kristof further said that he corresponded with Paul when he met him first in Rwanda in 2007. He included a  photo that shows him meeting Kirstof’s win-a-trip winners, Will Okun and Leana Wen, that year in Rwanda. He concluded the statement by writing, “So it’s devastating to hear that he died overnight. The world has lost a huge advocate for the world’s poor. RIP, Paul, and thank you for all you have done.”
