He was considered one of the most popular African artists in Francophone countries around the world. DJ Arafat is one of the first musician in Ivory Coast to obtain 1 million YouTube views in less than a day. He achieved this feat on his song, ‘Moto Moto’.

DJ Arafat came to symbolise the flashy well-dressed lifestyle associated with the music, which features fast percussion, deep bass, and hip-hop-style vocals. He issued 11 albums, mainly of “coupe-decale,” a dance music form combining choppy rhythms with hip-hop-style vocals.

Arafat was named the best artist of the year at the Coupé-Decalé Awards in 2016 and 2017.

Dj Arafat Death & Cause

Arafat was involved in a fatal motorbike accident on Sunday, August 11th, 2019 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Footage shared on social media has left his fans furious, claiming emergency services were slow to respond. The megastar was with a group of friends in Abidjan, Ivory Coast when he crashed into an oncoming car. He was rushed to a local hospital for treatment but died from his injuries on August 12th, 2019.

State broadcaster RTI tweeted: “Death of artist DJ Arafat… today at 8am as a result of a road accident overnight.”

Ivorian Culture Minister Maurice Kouakou Bandaman gave his condolences to the 33-year-old’s family, and fans, adding that he planned to pay homage to his life and career.
