Kudzai Machokoto & Ginger Baker

Kudzai Machokoto was the fourth wife of Ginger Baker. The two shared his home in Tulbagh, South Africa. At the time of their marriage, The Daily Mail reported that  Machokoto had a dubious background but Baker in an inteview said, “Kudzai is good to me. She has had a hard life up to now but now things are happier. I look after her and she looks after me.”

At the time of their wedding back in February 2010, Beker said about their wedding,  “We’ll get married locally but it will be quiet do, just us and two witnesses. It all seems right.”  The couple was married for 9 years before Baker’s death on October 6th, 2019. They were dating for 2 years after getting together in 2008.

Ginger Baker Marriages

Baker married his first wife, Liz Flinch, at 19, after she caught his eye while dancing beside the stage. By his own account, she put up with his affairs  –  until she found out he was sleeping with a friend of his teenage daughter.

His second wife was Sarah who was 18 at the time they were married. He and Sarah married in 1983, but he filed for divorce after discovering she was cheating on him with a younger man. Apparently, this breached his curious moral code. As per the Mail, Baker was then in his late 30s and had developed a passion for polo that meant mingling with Prince Charles, Major Ronald Ferguson  –  father of the Duchess of York  –  and the like.

At 50 and by then living in California, he married a third time, to Karen, a pretty young blonde friend of his hairdresser, but again the marriage was short-lived. They separated after Baker hurt his arm in an accident and was incensed that she went on holiday with her friend, as planned, rather than stay at home to nurse him. When he refused to pay a divorce settlement, she kept all his prized gold discs and apparently still has them.

Baker and his first wife, Liz Finch, had their first child, Ginette Karen, on December 20th, 1960. Baker’s second daughter, Leda, was born on February 20th, 1968. Baker’s son, Kofi Streatfield Baker, was born in March 1969 and named after a friend of Baker’s, Ghanaian drummer Kofi Ghanaba.
