Heidi Bomberger Bruschi was born in Nebraska. At the age of 9, he relocated to Tucson, Arizona where she was a sports standout, winning High School Player of Year.

Heidi later joined the University of Arizona on a full scholarship for volleyball. Not only was Heidi a member of the women’s volleyball team but also the National Champion women’s softball team.

From 1997 to 2000, Heidi coached the girls’ volleyball team for Walpole High School upon her arrival to the east coast.

In 2005, Bruschi was taken to a hospital with symptoms including temporary numbness, blurred vision, and headaches; Bruschi was diagnosed with a mild stroke. He suffered from a patent foramen ovale, a congenital heart defect that leaves a small hole in the wall separating the left and right atria of the heart. At the time, Heidi undertook the role of the caregiver and has since been an outspoken advocate for stroke survivors and caregivers. It is important to Heidi to make sure everyone knows the warning signs and knows what to do in case of a stroke emergency. The couple created the Tedy’s Team, created to spread the word about the warning signs of strokes. Since 2005, it has raised more than $5 million to support the American Stroke Association, according to its website.

In 2019, Bruschi and his wife ran in the Boston Marathon, this time in bib number 5454. Bruschi and seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson (bib number 4848) were both given four-digit bibs featuring their squad numbers repeated. Bruschi finished with a time of 4 hours, 35 minutes, 30 seconds.

On February 14th, 2019 (Valentine’s Day) Tedy wrote a love message to his wife captioned “I love this woman! My valentine ❤️ I saw you through a lens ? on this day and thought to myself, “That’s my girl!” ?”

On July 5th, 2019, it was reported through his foundation, Tedy’s Team, that Bruschi had suffered a second stroke and the in the afternoon, his family through a statement said that he was recovering. The statement identified the stroke as a transient ischemic attack, which temporarily blocks blood flow to the brain. He’s “recovering well” at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Massachusetts, according to the statement.
