Jessica Scarpone is a 27-year-old New York City jogger who was found dead inside of her apartment on July 31st, after going missing on July 29th following a run in Manhattan.
Scarpone described herself as a New York City-based Illustrator and all-around creative galwas. She was working at Garden Collage, an online gardening magazine. She was a native of Libertyville, Illinois, who attended college in Savannah, Georgia. Since 2014, she had been living on and off in New York City.
The New York Daily News was the first to report that Scarpone had tragically been found in the bedroom of her eighth-floor apartment on 58th Street and Tenth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan at around 1 p.m. July 31.

According to her official website, Scarpone was a graduate of Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, Georgia. She further wrote, “I want those who interact with my work to walk away feeling happier than they were before.” Scarpone was a graduate of Libertyville High School in her hometown.
Scarpone ran competitively while in college in Georgia. Scarpone set a school record at Florida State University’s Twilight event by running the 1500 meters at 4:42:18 in May 2014. At the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in May 2019, Scarpone finished in 17th place in the 5000 meters and 6th in the 10,000 meters.
Following her graduation, she moved to New York City before returning to Savannah to pursue an MA in Graphic Design & Visual Experience. That bio concludes with the words, “Aside from her artistic pursuits, Jessy is an avid runner, cookie connoisseur, part-time philosopher, and a decent joke-teller.”

Jessica Scarpone Missing
Scarpone went missing on July 29th, 2019 following a run in Manhattan. According to a missing person poster for Scarpone, she wrote on the running social media app Strava, “This was gonna be 11/12 miles to make up for missing yesterday, but after 2/3, I could tell it just wasn’t gonna happen. I’ve really been trying to mentally and physically get back into things, and something’s just not clicking. Yes, I could be doing better on sleep. Yes, it’s hot out. Yes, my mileage hasn’t been ideal Blah blah blah.”
A family friend, Hannah Lieberman wrote on Facebook that Scarpone’s mother had filed a missing person report with the NYPD. In the post, Lieberman said that friends thought Scarbone had run from Columbus Circle up to Hamilton Heights around 147th street. They were unsure if Scarpone would have run along Riverside Drive or through Central Park.
Another of Scarpone’s friends wrote on Twitter, “She would absolutely not have run away.”
Scarpone joked on her Instagram page that she was an “artist and dry humor extraordinaire.” Scarpone’s final Instagram post came on July 29. It showed her looking at photos of her and her friends at the Biergarten in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. Scarpone wrote in the caption that she was “supposed to long run” but wound up with her friends instead.
The Daily News says that it was Scarpone’s brother who raised the alarm after he hadn’t heard from his sister for a few days.

Jessica Sacrpone was found dead inside of her apartment on July 31st, 2019.
According to Daily News, Scarpone’s body showed no signs of trauma and that she had no medical conditions or a history of drug abuse. There was also no signs of forced entry to her home. An autopsy is pending in the case.
A Facebook post on the Dancing Whippets Running Team page at around 5 p.m. on July 31 read, “UPDATE: Jessy has been located, I will update as soon as there is more information. Thanks for everyone’s quick help/concern and spreading the word.”
