Joyce Echaquan Bio, Wiki
Joyce Echaquan is a 37-year-old Atikamekw woman who died in hospital in Joliette, Quebec on 28 September 2020. Before her death, she recorded a Facebook Live that showed healthcare workers abusing her. Disturbing video captures nurses in Canada taunting and berating a dying Indigenous woman in the last moments of her life.
Echaquan is a member of the Atikamekw Indigenous tribe found in Southwest Quebec, previously suffered similar issues and also had a heart condition. Her family believes she was given too much morphine and it contributed to her death, which is still under investigation.
Joyce Echaquan was Admitted with Stomach Pains
Echaquan, a mother of seven from Manawan, was admitted on September 26th for stomach pains. She had suffered heart problems in the past and had a pacemaker. On September 28th, she was given morphine despite her request that they stop because she was concerned she’d already been administered too much.
For seven minutes, she used Facebook Live to record a livestream using the name “JoyceCarol Dube”. In the recording, she cries for help as two unidentified workers can be heard insulting her in French. One woman called Echaquan “stupid as hell” and said that she was only “good for sex” while another criticized her “bad choices.” Echaquan was tied to her bed.
Joyce Echaquan Reactions
Québec Premier François Legault, announcing that one nurse had been fired, called her comments to Echaquan “unacceptable” and “racist”.
At least one of the nurses was fired following the incident, which was lambasted by Indigenous leaders as an example of systematic racism that happens far too often and goes ignored in the country, The Guardian reported.
“Discrimination against First Nations people remains prevalent in the healthcare system and this needs to stop,” the Assembly of First Nations national chief, Perry Bellegarde, said in a statement, the outlet reported.
While the Quebec premier François Legault condemned the staff’s actions, he stopped short of saying the event is reflective of a larger racism issue.
“I really don’t think we have this kind of way of dealing with First Nations people in our hospitals in Quebec,” he said.
Echaquan’s husband said he’s destroyed over his wife’s death. “I have seven children who find themselves without a mother,” Carol Dubé said. “I am sad. I am so sad.”
Over recent years, the fashion sector has grown dramatically, even to defeat traditional fashion. Over the years, immediately, a style is seen in the catwalks; it takes a few days to be in-store to satisfy the consumers’ thirsty who are already flocked in the stores to purchase them.
In my opinion, fast fashion growth has led to the introduction of more trends than before in a short time possible. Comparing the situation with the traditional way where a fashion could be on-trend for long periods before another one is introduced, fast fashion to me has conquered the consumers’ needs to be trendy faster. It has also led to fashion designers have started to gain sustainability in the industry more than before.
In my essay, I want to bring out the issue of how fast fashion has led to a more satisfying generation, especially teenagers and youths. As a new generation comes, the need for new things which are more trendy increases. The more significant difference between the traditional fashion and fast fashion makes the retailers make more sales than their competitors.
I want to show how fast fashion is quickly kicking the conventional style out of the market. I also want to bring out the issue of its more rapid growth than other industry styles and the practices that both consumers and retailers are taking to ensure that fast fashion is sustainable.
However, fast fashion has had its unethical way of competing in the market, which has had consequences even to the environment. Its competitiveness and satisfaction to the consumers rank it and, therefore, raise awareness of its quality and impact on our society. As a person in a fashion career, I want to show how fast fashion is powering the industry’s dignity before but satisfying the consumers.
In my essay, I want to discuss these authors; management association: information source, they elaborate more on how fast fashion is trendy and satisfying to young women and teenagers. Its positivity is brought out, and this makes it evolve significantly. Doyle, Moore, and Morgan have also contributed to the reason why fast fashion has made its way in the competitive market. They try to show how fast fashion is gaining popularity to consumers and is causing customers to spend more on fashion than before.
Every person in this generation wants to be trendy and fashionable. According to the management association, fast fashion has met this need very well. This has made it evolve quickly as compared to traditional fashion. Fast fashion retailers have turned to speedy marketing rather than having ready-made clothes to wear. This mean that they have focused on availing new trends in the market quickly to beat their competitors rather than making clothes earlier while rating their demand.
Furthermore, their clothes are cheaper to keep its sustainability. This has made it possible for women to be able to get these clothes at near stores. Being cheap also enables most people to afford them whenever they are available. Its evolving factor has been significantly contributed by the fact that they are reasonable. People can get by them at every season. Fast fashion has added more phases in their seasons, making it have more demand of more new products. This is due to increased occasions people attend and need differed fashions for them. They also point its impact on the environment which is inevitable. The more people purchase clothes, the more the waste clothes to dump to the environment. The value of these clothes dies within a very short time as other classy clothes appear in the market. The author claims that however much the fast fashion is evolving fast it has serious issues which are left unseen in the long run.
Doyle, Moore and Morgan in their article they try to elaborate on the reasons as to why fast fashion is growing faster than the traditional fashion. The pressure from the customers make the manufactures to speedup the process to meet the demand on the market. This, however, comes with a lot of constraints on the side of the supply chain as things need to be done quickly. This outstanding factor to them is one reason for its growth. Fast fashion according to them also is flexible. This makes it easier to transition to new fashions in most cases. Fast fashion is also profitable because the capital to start is not much and the increasing customers make the retailers to remain in the market for longer periods. The connection to my argument is that they try to connect the reason as to why the fast fashion line is evolving very fast and meeting consumer’s needs.
In the book fast fashion: marketing recycling and environmental issue; the authors try to show how fast fashion has led to the availability of secondhand clothes which can be reused by other people. The more fashion is produced quickly the more clothes are recycled and therefore less pollution to the environment and sustainability. The recycling and marketing of second-hand clothes has increased annual turnovers for the industries which had led to increased capital investment. If the business is sustainable this means that the economy also will grow. This links to my argument on how fast and speedy trends have led to sustainability of fast fashion industry. This means that they have gained more support and can compete fairly in the market as their fashion takes shorter time to be in the market.
In conclusion, fast fashion has stood out to be marketable in its own way. Being competitive in the market and its sustainability has proved that fashion can flourish well. Fast fashion also has given young women and teenagers an opportunity to be trendy no matter their economic status as the fashions are cheap and available even in smaller retail shops. It’s speed in producing new fashions has made many people feel the need to up to date in fashion date and make their occasions better. Creating secondhand clothes industry has made it sustainable and contribute to the economy more. This essay has made me achieve my purpose by trying to give credit to the work that fast fashion industry is doing.
