Kathryn attended Villa Walsh Academy graduating in 1999. She was a good athlete and played softball and basketball in her high school woman’s team. She later joined Rutgers University, on academic and athletic scholarships, graduating in 2003 with a degree in Journalism. She was a four-time Academic All-American and Big East All Star as a Scarlet Knight.

Kathryn began her career with CSTV in 2003 where she hosted a variety of programs. She later worked with WJAR (an affiliate radio channel for NBC) as a sports reporter.

On December 23, 2019 NHL analyst Jeremy Roenick was suspended after he offered inappropriate comments about coworkers while appearing on Barstool’s Spittin’ Chiclets podcast. He alleged in a podcast that he had been open to sleeping with NBC Sports host Kathryn Tappen.
During the podcast he described a summer vacation he took in Portugal with his wife and Kathryn Tappen. He said that one hotel guest approached him to ask if the three were together.“I play it off like we’re all going to bed together every night, the three of us. If it really came to fruition, that would really be good. But it’s never going to happen.”
