Steve Gassman expressed his sadness as he grieved the passing of the sports broadcaster. He wrote in a post shared on Facebook “I am extremely saddened to wake-up to the news that legendary iconic Chicago sports broadcaster Les Grobstein passed away yesterday at the age of 69 in his home. In the early 1980’s “The Grobber” was one of my teachers at Columbia College Chicago. We remained friends thru our work in the professional sports industry. He was a walking sports encyclopedia. I ran into him hundreds of times at Chicago sports events thru the years. We always stopped to acknowledge each other with short chats. Overnights on 670 The Score will never be the same. I could go on with all-day great stories about Les.
I am sorry for this tragic loss. My condolences to his longtime partner Kathy and his son Scott, his family, friends and all whose lives he touched. May the memory of #lesgrobstein be a blessing. RIP Les. You were one-of-a-kind. You will be long remembered & never forgotten.🥲💔”
