Anna Yourkin Biography

Anna Yourkin is the mother of convicted killer Luka Magnotta. Luka is a former porn actor who was convicted of stabbing 33-year old Jun Lin to death in 2012 and mailing Lin’s body across the country. He was also found guilty of four other charges; criminally harassing then-prime minister Stephen Harper and other members of Parliament, mailing obscene and indecent material, committing an indignity to a body and publishing obscene materials.

Anna was in a relationship with Donald Newman. They had their first son Magnotta while Yourkin was 16 years old and Donald Newman was 17 years old. The two separated when Magnotta was 10 years old. During Magnotta’s trial Donald claimed that Yourkin was very clingy and that she was terrified of germs and she wouldn’t let their kids use public bathrooms throughout their childhood.

Anna Yourkin Luka Magnotta

Luka Magnotta is the son of Anna Yourkin.  In 2012 Luka Magnotta killed Lin Jun who was a 33-year-old Chinese student before mailing his hands and feet to elementary schools and federal political party offices. The two first met through a Craigslist ad that Magnotta had posted, advertising sex and bondage. They met for the first time on May 24, 2012.

On May 25, Magnotta posted “1 Lunatice 1 Icepick” to a gore site. The ten-minute video shows Magnotta slitting Lin’s throat, then going on to decapitate Lin, dismember him, sodomize his body, and more. In December 2014 he was convicted of first-degree murder.

During an interview with Global News 640 Yourkin said, “I’ve come to terms with the fact that my son was accused and convicted of first-degree murder. But the aftermath is very hard to deal with.”

She added that her son is still loved; “Who the person my son son is, and has always been to me, he’s a wonderful human being… It wasn’t a question of forgiveness, I unconditionally love my son. I know we have a bond that can work through anything. So we did.”

Luka Magnotta Manny Lopez

During an interview with Netflix, since she did not appear as a witness for Magnotta’s defense during his trail, when she was asked if she believed the argument that Magnotta committed crimes to seek fame, she said this was the “furthest thing from the truth.” She then suggested that people should be looking for the “puppet master,” a man named “Manny Lopez” that Magnotta has since blamed for his actions. There’s no proof that Lopez exists.

According to a psychiatrist at Magnotta’s trial, he argued that Manny can’t be a real person and instead referenced Lopez as a voice in Magnotta’s head since Magnotta had since been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

In November 2018 Anna released her memoir ‘My Son the Killer: The Untold Story of Luka Magnotta & I Lunatic 1 Ice Pick’ with the help of co-writer Brian Whitney. In the memoir she described her relationship with her son.
