What Case is Unbelievable Based On – Marc O Leary Rapist
O’Leary is the man who between October 2009 and January 2011 sexually assaulted three women over the course of several hours.
One of his victims reported that she was awakened on a January morning by a masked man who displayed a silver and black handgun. The man told her that he would shoot her if she screamed.
In a span of more than four hours he dressed her in thigh high stockings and high heels he’d brought with him in a backpack that also included lubrication, moistened wipes, and bottled water. In addition, he ordered her to apply makeup and lipstick and arrange her hair in pigtails, before photographing her in provocative poses he directed using a pink Sony camera. He also bound her using her own silk band, groped her breasts, probed her vagina and rectum, made her perform oral sex on him twice, forced intercourse without a condom and masturbated himself until he ejaculated on her face.
He later instructed her to shower and when she came from the shower he was gone, along with all of the stuff he’d brought with him, plus her bedsheets, pajamas and panties.
He had been watching his victims and had been in the apartment of the victim on multiple occasions, he, however, didn’t remove his mask during the attacks. His victims, however, saw the rest of him, including a shaved pubic area and an egg-shaped birthmark on his right leg that would prove key in identifying him.
When the Colorado police began their investigation they became aware of a similar case that had taken place in Lakewood the previous July – one in which the victim says she suffered broken ribs, a punctured lung and fractured vertebrae. They also gained access to surveillance footage that caught a glimpse of a white pickup owned by O’Leary.
Marc O Leary Arrest
Marc was arrested after two detectives s from two departments – along with the FBI pieced together his trail through smart policing, collaboration and luck. During an interview with ’48 hours’ detective Stacy Galbraith said she felt like they were up against the clock as the rapist was stalking and raping women in Colorado.
He was plotting their schedules. He was even in their homes without attacking them. But when he did, he did so with military precision – he raped them, he photographed them, and then he made them shower or bathe as a way to clear out any evidence.
In 2011 Galbirth got in the case after she was presented with a brutal rape. Galbarith described the case to her husband, a police officer in a nearby town. Turned out, his department had a similar case.
Galbraith shared her information with Westminster, Colo., detective Edna Hendershot and they agreed to work together. In comparing details of both attacks they realized they were on the trail of a serial rapist, one who most likely would strike again and soon. After finding yet another nearby case involving the rapist, their investigation identified a white truck near two of the crime scenes.
The truck was traced back to then 32-year-old Army veteran Marc Patrick O’Leary and was arrested at his home.
