Martha Gill is a political journalist and former lobby correspondent. She has worked as a staffer at the Economist and the New Statesman. She has been in the spotlight for her stance in Johnny Depp in which she says that the outcome of the case and the public reaction are a blow to the MeToo movement. She wrote a response after her comments came under scrutiny, “Feminists aren’t saying ‘no woman can be dishonest’. They are pointing out there is a bias against believing women, AS SHOWN in the public reaction to the trial, before the verdict was even in.”
This is precisely not what is being said. There’s a very basic error being made here. Feminists aren’t saying ‘no woman can be dishonest’. They are pointing out there is a bias against believing women, AS SHOWN in the public reaction to the trial, before the verdict was even in

For the record, Johnny Depp was suing his ex-wife for $50 million in damages, and Heard sought $100 million in a countersuit. The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million dollars in punitive damages. The jury awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages and no money for punitive damages.
Punitive damages in the state of Virginia are capped at $350,000, so the judge reduced the punitive damages award to that amount.
