Menhaz Zaman is a 23-year-old man has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder after four people were found dead in a Markham home on Sunday, July 28th, 2019. The victims are believed to be his parents (mother and father), grandmother and sister.

The York Regional Police say officers were called to a home on Castlemore Avenue, near Mingay Avenue and southwest of Major MacKenzie Drive East and Markham Road, just before 3 p.m. with a report multiple people may have been injured.

At 3 p.m. (Eastern Time), police received an important call regarding that multiple people were wounded in the house. When the police arrived, they found a man wearing a black T-shirt in the front door. The police found three women and a man dead inside. The man who was later identified as Menhaz Zaman was later taken into custody.

“The identification process for the deceased is going to take quite some time as post-mortems are done by the coroner,” Const. Andy Pattenden said in a brief update Monday morning.

In some cryptic messages obtained by CityNews in an online multi-player game, shortly after the killings took place, the accused writes about killing four family members –- his mother, grandmother, sister, and father.

Officers announced Menhaz Zaman was charged with four counts of first-degree murder. He was scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court on Monday.

Menhaz Zaman Cryptic Messages

Menhaz Zaman posted cryptic messages about the murders in an online multi-player game, shortly after the killings took place, according to a CityNews source.

The chilling messages which were obtained by CityNews  show a conversation between the murder suspect, Menhaz Zaman, and another online gamer as they played an adventure fantasy game called ‘Perfect World Void.’

In the obtained screenshots, the accused writes about killing four family members –- his mother, grandmother, sister, and father.  Zaman would “troll around about this for years – so no one believed him.”

Zaman would talk about feeling depressed and dropping out of university. “I started getting depressed, became an atheist, and ultimately created this plan,” he wrote. The messages further read, “ … I don’t want my parents to feel the shame of having a son like me.”

“I know it sounds confusing but what’s done is done and what had been planned has been concluded,” Zaman also wrote.

He also posted images of the murder scene. “First mom then granny then sister and lastly dad,” he wrote. “I was shaking the entire day.”

The conversation ends when Zaman wrote, “the police are here, goodbye.”
