Mike Cessario is the founder and CEO of Liquid Death, a nonalcoholic beverage brand that has been making headlines since its inception in 2018. He co-founded Liquid Death alongside Jon-Ryan Riggins, although Cessario officially owns the brand.

In the past, Cessario worked as a Netlifix creative director and filed a trademark application for the term “Liquid Death” with the US Patent and Trademark Office on July 5, 2017.

Cessario,  in an interview, revealed that he chose to explore a venture in water since he grew up as a vegetarian and energy drinks were not an option for him. He says that he aspired to venture into a healthy product, and that’s when it struck him that young people barely drink enough water. According to him, young people prefer drinking energy drinks to water because of marketing. The packaging of energy drinks is much more appealing than the adverts, so he decided to revamp the marketing scene with a catchy slogan.

The LA-based outfit sells canned mountain water from the Alps that will “murder your thirst,” Earlier this year, Liquid Death landed $75 million in Series C funding led by the startup studio Science. The company is also a producer of NFTs, which they called Murder Head Death Club.

He writes on his Linkedin that “There’s no reason why health and sustainability can’t be marketed with the same explosive level of fun as energy drinks, beer, candy, and junk food are.

Cessario has also worked as an Advertising creative at Lots of Agencies from Aug 2008 to Jan 2019. He was an Art Director turned Copywrite/Creative Director for agencies including Crispin Porter & Bogusky, among others.
