Peart was introduced to photographer Carrie Nuttall in Los Angeles by long-time Rush photographer Andrew MacNaughtan. They celebrated their marriage in 2000. On September 9th, 2015, Rush, the band he played for, posted a photo of the two celebrating their 15th anniversary. The post read: “Neil Peart and his wife Carrie Nuttall were married on this date back in 2000. Happy 15th anniversary!!!”

Peart was born on September 12th, 1952 in Hagersville, Canada. He received a drum kit for his 14th birthday, and four years later travelled to London in the hope of becoming a professional musician.
After returning to Canada he auditioned for Rush, joining them in time for second album Fly By Night. He subsequently played on all of Rush’s albums, including the classics 2112, Hemispheres, A Farewell To Kings, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures.
In 1997, Peart’s 19-year-old daughter Selena Taylor was killed in a car accident, and a year later his long-time partner Jacqueline Taylor succumbed to cancer. He went on to remarry photographer, Carrie Nuttall in 2000.
Peart died of brain cancer on January 7th, 2020, at the age of 67. A brief statement was issued today by family spokesperson Elliot Mintz, stating that Peart died on Tuesday in Santa Monica, California, having been diagnosed with brain cancer.
