Nicole Poole Franklin Biography

Nicole Franklin (Nicole Marie Poole Franklin) is a Lowa woman who ran over a teenager, Natalia Miranda because she was Hispanic. She is being charged with attempted murder after she admitted to the police that she intentionally ran over Miranda because she believed the teenager was Mexican.

On December 9, 2019 Nicole told the police that she was driving a black Jeep Grand Cherokee near a high school when she drove onto the sidewalk where a 14-year-old girl, Natalia, was walking to school to watch a basketball game. Franklin then fled the scene.

“The defendant admitted she intentionally struck the victim intending to injure or kill her. She struck the victim because the victim is Hispanic.”

During a press conference on Friday Clive Police Chief Michael Venema said; “Franklin told investigators that she ran the girl over because, in her words, she was ‘a Mexican.’ She went on to make a number of derogatory statements about Latinos to our investigators. There is no place in our community, or in any other for that matter, for this type of hatred or violence.”

Miranda suffered a concussion and severe bruising in the attack but is expected to make a full recovery. She was hospitalized for two days.

During an interview with Des Moines television station KCCI she said; “I don’t remember the impact. I just remember the car coming at me.”

Franklin is being charged with attempted murder, assault, theft, consumption, intoxication and possession of illegal substances. Franklin was already in jail on a separate assault charge when police interviewed her about the hit-and-run. In the assault case, which also occurred on Dec. 9, she’s accused of making racist remarks to a West Des Moines convenience store clerk and customers and throwing items at the clerk.
