Patricia Anton Biography
Patricia Anton (Patricia Ann Anto) was a curriculum program director at the Mariposas Montessori elementary school in Cabarete. She was discovered dead inside her home in the province of Puerto Plata on Tuesday morning with her hands and feet tied up. She also had a gag in her mouth and there were signs that she had been tortured.

Patricia lived in the Dominican Republic for 15 years at the time of her death, she is originally from Traverse City, Michigan. She often jokingly referred to herself as a “local” for the Dominican on social media.
Patricia Anton Career
Patricia worked at Mariposas Montessori for just under six years at the time of her death. She started as a teacher, and then was promoted to being the Curriculum Program Director in 2019. She previously taught in Guatemala in 2006.
She often shared statuses encouraging people to participate in fundraisers for the school where she worked. In one, she wrote, “We’re selling our new 3MM logo hats for $15 Stateside and $10 in the Cabarete area. If you’re willing to support a great cause by purchasing one, I’ll hand deliver your hat in Michigan at DR prices 🙂 PM me if you’d like to order. I’ll be home in no time 😄”
Patricia Anton Death
According to local media, Patricia was found gagged and bound in the Dominican Republic and she is believed to have been tortured and murdered during a burglary.
Local newspaper Lopez Doringa reported that she was discovered dead inside her home in the province of Puerto Plata on Tuesday morning with her hands and feet tied up. Authorities ruled her death as strangulation.
Frank Felix Duran, Dominican National Police spokesman told local media that authorities found Stanton’s body on her bed with a gag in her mouth and said there were signs that she had been tortured.
Police believe that she was killed during a robbery as her cellphone, laptop and plasma television were missing and there were signs her cupboards had been ransacked.
Duran also alleged that Sharon might have been killed by someone she knew as there were no signs of forced entry.
Many parents of the Children Anton taught lamented her loss on social media. One wrote;
“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Patty. She was an amazing mother, teacher and friend – a role model to so many. She loved the DR – both the place and the people. She had a heart of gold and would help anyone – but was also a seasoned savvy traveler who could hold her own and was always aware of her surroundings. I cannot imagine how this happened or what kind of monster could be so merciless to take her life in such a cruel way. Senseless. Heart breaking.”
