Julie Frates & Pete Frates
Pete Frates wed Julie Frates at an oceanfront event in Julie’s hometown of Marblehead, MA on June 1st, 2013.

Speaking to the Boston Herald in 2012, Pete says the he“proposed to Julie on November 11th, 2012.” Frates said. “It was Notre Dame weekend for BC (football). I wanted to maybe take a drive or hang around (home) in a nice setting.” Since Julie had friends around, Pete had a difficult time choosing the right time to pop the question.
He told the Herald, I’m sitting here, freaking out, saying, ‘How am I going to pull this off now, with all her friends here. So I said, ‘Jules, I gotta go take these sweatpants off and put some shorts on . . .”
Off they went to make the change. Julie, helping out, turned to fold the discarded sweats. That’s when Pete dropped to one knee . . .
“What are you doing down on the floor?” Julie said. And so Pete answered by popping the question.
“Nothing that would go down in a movie,” Pete said. “In his defense,” Julie said, “we did go to Paris the next day. So it wasn’t too shabby.”
When Julie received the devastating news in March 2012 that Pete had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, nothing about their relationship changed. It was “we” before the diagnosis and it remains “we” to this day as per the Herald.
