Ineke Ten Kate Biography – Who Is Rutger Hauer Wife

Ineke Ten Kate is a Dutch painter, sculptor and actress known for Cyrano de Bergerac (1975) and Het uur van de wolf (1995). She is the wife of Dutch actor, writer and environmentalist Rutger Hauer who died on July 19, 2019 after a short illness.

Ineke married her husband Rutger Hauer on November 22, 1985. They two had been together since 1968. Rutger was an actor whose major break came in 1969 when he was cast in the title role of “Floris,” an Ivanhoe-like knight who becomes embroiled in court intrigue upon his return from the Crusades. He reprised the role in a 1975 revival of the series, “Floris von Rosemund.”

Rutger was born to acting teachers but he didn’t catch the acting bug immediately as at the age of 15 he ran from home to join the Dutch merchant navy. In 1962 he returned to Amsterdam briefly and studied acting but he again left school for a stint in the army.

He finally got committed to acting and joined Noorder Compagnie, a touring experimental troupe, in which he acted, directed and served as costume designer and translator for several years.

Hauer played the murderous replicant Roy Batty in Blade Runner, which was directed by Ridley Scott and also starred Harrison Ford. Hauer was well known for horror and vampire roles, starring as Van Helsing in Dracula 3D, and as the vampire Barlow in Salem’s lot – a 2004 mini-series of the Stephen King novel.

He has also appeared in the films Sin City as Cardinal Roark, in Batman Begins as the corporate villain who Bruce Wayne discovers is running the Wayne Corp. and he also appeared in HBO series True Blood.

Rutger was also an outspoken sponsor of the environmental organization Greenpeace and the founder of the Starfish Association, a non-profit devoted to AIDS awareness.

Ineke and her husband Rutger had no children together, she is however the stepmother to Rutger’s daughter from his first marriage to Heidi Merz, known as Aysha Hauer.

Rutger Hauer Death

Rutger died on July 19, 2019 at his home in the Netherlands following a short illness. His death was confirmed by a statement on his website.

“The Rutger Hauer Starfish Association announces with infinite sadness that after a very short illness, on Friday, July 19, 2019, Rutger Hauer passed away peacefully at his Dutch home. He leaves his beloved wife Ineke, after they have been together for fifty years.

We at Starfish will always cherish the many unforgettable memories we have of Rutger and his dedication to the Rutger Hauer Starfish Association. One of Rutger’s last wishes was that Starfish should continue its charity activity and its fight against the AIDS disease, and with Ineke’s precious help, involvement and direction we will follow Rutger’s wish and will do our best to carry on Rutger’s inestimable legacy.”
