Sammy has never had a husband but a day prior to her 50th birthday she married herself.
“I married a fat cut out of myself the day before my 50th birthday… I’ve never thought this before the wedding but I thought to myself, ‘You’re pretty great’. Yes, I’m going home alone but when the right person comes along, they are going to be with someone pretty amazing — I’m ready to meet the right person. A few people cried at the wedding because it really was beautiful.”
She said that she didn’t marry hersellf because she was single and desperate but it was about accepting herself.
“I had gorgeous men at my table. It wasn’t because I was single and desperate that I married myself, it was about accepting myself and just loving yourself.”
She divorced herself a day after the wedding. She said that the next day celebrities attended a “Divorce Party” hosted by Power at The Noosa Surf Club.
“Divorced happily — I could only spend one night with myself.”
Sammy Power Radio Career
Power served as the breakfast announcer and Executive Director of PowerSquared since January 1984 until April 2012. She ditched her radio career to move back to Brisbane to help her mother with the business after feeling “burnt out”.

Sammy was the director of Jan Powers Farmers Markets since April 2012. Jan Powers Farmers Markets Brisbane is an icon of Brisbane’s food scene. They champion local produce and with putting farmers markets firmly on the map.
According to their website; “Every Jan Powers Market is a big, bustling open air market selling fresh farm produce, flowers, breads, artisan designers, meat, fish, fowl, plants, organics, olives, spices, oils, honey, ginger beers, bagels, fresh pastas, curry powders, delicious smoothies, French delicacies, coffee and food combinations that are beyond compare!”

Sammy Power died on December 16, 2019. According to Courier Mail her death was confirmed by friends who say she was found in her home in Hendra, northeast Brisbane, on Monday.
ABC Brisbane breakfast radio host Loretta Ryan tweeted; “Very shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Sammy Power. I can still hear her talking about her cats and her infectious laugh.”
