Stephen Luke Miller is reported to have passed away on March 14, 2022. The Scottsboro native who was 46 years old was on leave from the Scottsboro Police Department when he shot his estranged wife at a residence on Berry Road in Scottsboro. Miller was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the residence. His wife is expected to survive the gunshot wound.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Shooting Investigates the incident
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the incident. describing it as “a death and first-degree assault investigation.” Scottsboro Police Chief Ron Latimer said their findings will be turned over to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.

Stephen was born on February 2, 1976, in Scottsboro. In October 2006, he was hired by the Scottsboro Police department and it is being reported that he was recently promoted to Sergeant.
He is survived by his Son Alexander Luke Miller, and his Daughter Kylie Rae Miller his parents Dennis and Mary Miller, Sisters Beth Miller and LuAnne(Jason) Tubbs, Brothers Jeff & Michelle Miller.
Stephen Luke Miller Funeral Arrangements
According to his obituary, The Miller family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at the Rudder Funeral Home in Scottsboro from 5 p.m until 8 p.m. The body will lie-in-State at St. Jude Catholic Church in Scottsboro from 9 a.m until 11 a.m a Funeral Mass will be held beginning at 11 a.m with Father Thomas Woods Officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro, Alabama.
Brittney Green who was a friend of one of Stephen’s daughters wrote on Facebook, “Please continue to pray hard for this family. I have been friends with Kylie for almost 9 years now and I have gotten to know her family like they are my own.”
Green further wrote that she absolutely adored her dad and always enjoyed it when she would be on the phone with Kylie and could hear Stephen in the background talking to her.
“He would sit around with me and Kylie and listen to oldies and talk about his life. Just this Sunday he was congratulating me on my tumbler business and asking me to come to hang out at the house with them.”
Green concluded the statement by stating that Stephen will be missed dearly and that she cannot imagine what this family is going through right now. “My heart and prayers are with them. Please pray for my best friend Kylie and her family.”
