Subriel Matías and Maxim Dadashev
On July 19, 2019 Matias was on a 140-pound world title elimination fight with Maxim Dadashev at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. He beat Maxim in 11 rounds and the fight was stopped by Maxim’s trainer Buddy McGrith after Maxim suffering a lot of blows.
While he was getting off the ring he collapsed and vomited and was taken to UM Prince George’s Hospital Center, Maryland. He was diagnosed with a subdural haematoma and had to undergo surgery to try to relieve pressure on the right side of his brain, where most of the damage was. He was later induced into a medically induced coma.
Egis Klimas, the boxing manager, released a statement revealing that Maxim had suffered brain swelling.
“Dadashev experienced brain swelling, so the right side of his skull was removed. Within the next couple of days the swelling should decrease. Let’s hope that the part of the skull will be put back in place. The doctor says that Max may come back to normal life. Right now, he’s in critical condition, but the doctor told me that he’s stable.”
Maxim Dadashev Dead
On July 23, 2019 Maxim was pronounced dead from the brain injuries. His death was confirmed by his wife Elizaveta Apushkina.
“It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of my husband, Maxim Dadashev. He was a very kind person who fought until the very end. Our son will continue to be raised to be a great man like his father. Lastly, I would like to thank everyone that cared for Maxim during his final days. I ask that everyone please respect our privacy during this very difficult time.”
The Russian Boxing Federation said they had opened an investigation as they believed there was some kind of violation.
“We will fully support his family, including financially. We will complete the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fight, we need to know the truth about what happened. This happens in any sport. I think some human factors intervened, there was some kind of violation.”

After Maxim was taken to hospital Matias told the Washington Post that he hoped Maxim was alright as he is a great fighter and warrior.
“I just hope that Maxim is all right. He is a great fighter and a warrior.”
