Terry Babb who was a renowned open-wheel racer is being reported to have passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the age of 55. He was a frequent competitor in the winged and non-winged cars, and midget and participated in the USAC Silver Crown Series.
Terry Babb USAC Series
Babb was a frequent competitor in the USAC sanctioned events since 1989. His final appearance was just two weeks ago when he competed in the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National event that was held at Wisconsin’s Angell Park Speedway where he managed to finish 13th.
Back in May this year (2022), Bobb made his 31st and final USAC Silver Crown start at the Terre Haute Action track where he finished ninth. The best race he ever did at USAC was when he managed to finish the fourth-place run at the Terre Haute track in 2010. His first event at the USAC Silver Crown started back in 1989 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. At the time, he was 22 years old.
At the USAC National Sprint Car feature, Babb made his debut in 1990 and throughout his career, scored 14th in his debut at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, III.
The other USAC race he participated in was the NOS Energy Drink National Midget where he recorded eight career appearances. His best race was when he placed ninth at the 2018 Shamrock Classic at the Southern Illinois Center where he was also the hard charger after starting 18th.

Terry Babb was married to Sara Babb a 1st Grade Teacher at St. Patrick Catholic School. The couple had children and grandchildren. She studies Teaching at the University of St. Francis. He also studied Psychology at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Sara went to Virden High School as per her Facebook.
Terry Babb Death & Cause
Terry Babb passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the age of 55. He suffered a heart attack while leading the feature at St. Francois County Raceway. He went out doing what he love. We ask our dirt community to keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers!
Shannon Babb Racing wrote in a statement confirming his death,
“Please send your thoughts and prayers to the family of Terry Babb. We woke up to some very heartbreaking news this morning the passing of Shannon’s cousin, Terry.
Terry was a heck of a racer and fierce competitor, but he was also a wonderful son & husband, a loving father, and most recently a proud grandfather. He was a friend to many. Please continue to pray for his family and all the people that knew him.”
Babb says on his Facebook that he works at Goedecke and studied at Illinois State University. For his high school, he went to Warrensburg – Latham High School and lives in Harristown in Illinois.
