Tyler Wayne Skaggs was born on July 13th, 1991 and died on July 1st, 2019. He was an American professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels. Skaggs was drafted by the Angels in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft.
Skaggs died on July 1st at the age of 29. His cause of death was not immediately revealed.
Skaggs was drafted by the Angeles out of high school in Santa Monica in 2009. In 2010, Skaggs joined the Arizona Diamondbacks. Skaggs rejoined the Angels in 2013, where he would remain for the rest of his career.

Skaggs was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft out of Santa Monica High School in Santa Monica, California. His professional debut that season at the Rookie-level in minor league baseball was with the Arizona Angels of the Arizona League and the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League. In 2010, the Angels assigned Skaggs to the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Class A Midwest League.
Arizona Diamondbacks
On July 25th, 2010, Skaggs along with Joe Saunders, Rafael Rodríguez and Patrick Corbin were traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Dan Haren. The Diamondbacks assigned Skaggs to the South Bend Silver Hawks of the Midwest League.
In the 2011 season, Skaggs started the season with the Visalia Rawhide of the Class A-Advanced California League. In July 2011, he received a promotion to the Mobile Bay Bears of the Class AA Southern League. Skaggs, along with Paul Goldschmidt, represented the Diamondbacks at the 2011 All-Star Futures Game.
Skaggs started the 2012 season with Mobile, receiving a promotion to the Reno Aces of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League in late June. He appeared in the 2012 All-Star Futures Game. Skaggs made his MLB debut on August 22, and gave up two runs through 6 1⁄3 innings of work and was awarded the win.
Los Angeles Angels Second Stint
On December 10th, 2013, The Diamondbacks traded Skaggs back to the Angels on December, in a three-team trade also involving the Chicago White Sox. The Angels received Hector Santiago along with Skaggs, while the White Sox received Adam Eaton and the Diamondbacks received Mark Trumbo and two players to be named later. In August 2014, Skaggs underwent Tommy John surgery, and he later decided that he would not pitch for the entire 2015 season. He’d finish his first season with the Angels with a 5-5 record in 18 starts.\

Skaggs’s parents are Debbie Skaggs and Darrell Skaggs. His mother, Debbie, was the softball coach at Santa Monica High School until 2015.

Skaggs married his wife Carli Miles in Southern California in late 2018. The couple’s wedding was nearly ruined when the parts of their venue was destroyed due to wildfires.

Skaggs was quoted as saying of the wedding, “This was important to us. But it was nothing compared to the way people’s lives were being impacted. A thousand things go into planning a wedding, but no one ever plans on their venue burning.” In the same article, Carli said, “We were very lucky.”

Tyler Skaggs Death
Skaggs died on Monday, July 1st, 2019, in Arlington, Texas.
Skaggs’ death in Texas was first announced in a statement from the Angels. The Angels are in Texas to play the Rangers, as a result of Skaggs’ death, the Monday’s game has been canceled.

The Angels’ statement read, “It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas. Tyler has, and always be, an important part of the Angels family. Our thoughts and prayers with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.”
The Southlake Police Department wrote in a press release that, at 2:18 p.m., the PD “responded to a call of an unconscious male in a room in the Hilton hotel at 1400 Plaza Place. Officers arrived and found the male unresponsive and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.” The police say “no foul play is suspected” and the “investigation is ongoing.” They named Skaggs as the man found.

Tyler Skaggs Tribute by the Angels
On Friday night, July 12th, Los Angeles Angels played their first home game since Skagg’s death. The Angels made sure he was properly honored, including a 45-second moment of silence and having his mom, Debbie Hetman, throw a perfect ceremonial first pitch. Tyler Skaggs was on the mound, on a framed jersey that was carried onto the field for a pregame ceremony and on the backs of every player on the Los Angeles Angels.
