Vernon Unsworth Biography

Vernon Unsworth is a British rescue worker, cave diver and financial broker. He is also an insurance and finance consultant at Affinity Insurance and Mortgage Services. He is suing Elon Musk for calling him a pedophile on Twitter. This was after Unsworth helped save a Thai soccer team that was trapped in a flooded and complex cave system.

After Elon Musk dubbed Vernon ‘pedo guy’ Woranan told the Thai news website Coconuts that the idea that Vernon married a 12-year-old child is laughable.

‘The news about him being married to a 12-year-old child is laughable. Vern is a kind person. He rarely has an argument with anyone, and everybody loves Vern. We’ve spent our life together for seven years – he’s a good man and such a gentleman. He thinks of others before himself. I know what kind of person Vern is. If he wasn’t a good man, we wouldn’t still be together after all these seven years.’

In September 2018 Elon Musk in a series of emails to BuzzFeed News called Vernon a “child rapist” who had moved to the Southeast Asian country to take a child bride. In a letter to a Buzzfeed reporter he said;

‘He’s an old, single white guy from England who’s been traveling to or living in Thailand for 30 to 40 years, mostly Pattaya Beach, until moving to Chiang Rai for a child bride who was about 12 years old at the time.

There’s only one reason people go to Pattaya Beach. It isn’t where you’d go for caves, but it is where you’d go for something else. Chiang Rai is renowned for child sex-trafficking.’

The comment stemmed from a comment made by Unsworth about a submarine Musk had built to help rescue a group of Thai boys who became trapped in the Tham Luang cave complex in northern Thailand earlier in 2018. At the time, Unsworth said Musk could stick his submarine ‘where it hurts’, called the entire exercise a PR stunt and questioned whether the contraption would have been able to help in the rescue operation.

Elon Musk then vowed to shoot a video showing his sub navigating the cave and tweeted: ‘Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it.’

Vernon Unsworth Sued Elon Musk

After Elon Musk called Unsworth ‘pedo-guy’, Unsworth filed a defamation lawsuit. Unsworth lawyer said that, ‘Elon Musk can tweet his vindictive and vicious lie about Mr. Unsworth a hundred times and it will still be a lie. After deleting the initial accusation and tweeting an apology, Mr. Musk has continued to republish his false and unsupportable accusation. His conduct demonstrates that his recklessness is intentional and designed to harm Mr. Unsworth.’

In court deposition Elon Musk says he once worried that British cave diver Vernon Unsworth might be “another Jeffrey Epstein.”

In the testimony Musk reveals that his representatives launched an investigation into Unsworth, and Musk was concerned with what the investigator found. He added that he sent e-mails to Buzzfeed due to a concern over what he heard about Unsworth.

“And I was like, well, what if this is a real situation? What if what we have here is another Jeffrey Epstein. We should, you know — I have this — I am told this information. I don’t know if it is true. But what if we have another Jeffrey Epstein on our hands? And what if he uses whatever celebrity he gains from this cave rescue to shield his bad deeds? This would be terrible.”
