Santos Padillaio a Mexican immigrant is best known for being the father of Alex Padilla, an American politician serving as the 32nd secretary of California. He is also the U.S. Senator-designate to replace Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in the U.S. Senate. Once appointed, he will become the first Latino California senator in US history.

Padilla’s parents emigrated from Mexico and raised their family in the working-class community of Pacoima, California. His father worked as a short-order cook and his mother cleaned houses.

Alex Padilla is married to Angela and the couple have three sons together, ages 5, 7, and 13. Angela is the president of Fundamental Change, a mental health organisation. She was raised in the San Fernando Valley by her single mother, diagnosed with Bipolar I with schizoaffective disorder when Angela was still very young.
