Zach Wheeler a News Director and Anchor at NBC affiliate, WETM-TV is in the headlines after he was allegedly busted while trying to meet what he thought was a 15-year-old boy. The WETM anchor was busted by a New York group that exposes child-sex predators online. The NBC anchor allegedly drove 3 hours in his pursuit to meet the young boy.
The group that busted him goes by the name 607 Predators Hunters on YouTube and their program is known as ‘To Catch a Predator’.
Zach Wheeler Tries to Meet with an Underage Boy
The 607 Predator hunters posted a video of the incident on YouTube which showed Wheeler at a store attempting to meet with an underage boy. He is confronted by the filming crew and initially tries to deny that he was at the store to meet or have sex with the teenager. He argues on multiple occasions that he was only to ‘talk to the teen and warn him to get off of those apps.
The group however does not buy Wheeler’s narrative, he pivots to a different tone stating that they were targeting gay and lesbian people. The group insists that they only attempt to catch all pedophiles irrespective of sexual orientation.
Wheeler keeps trying to get himself off the hook by asking the group if they were trying to ruin people’s lives. He noted that the group would ruin his whole career and that he would lose his job and everything. At another point, Wheeler argues that the group is engaging in a “cancel culture” because of his job.
The group tells him that the predicaments that would befall him were all brought by himself. He is shown the chat logs of the conservation he had with the said underage boy. The chats contained sexually explicit messages.
Wheeler noted that he is in a fix and tries to buy himself out of the situation by asking the group if they needed money. He tells them he can also offer them help by ensuring they get their group on TV.
